Oshogbo Sacred Grove, 2022

Performance for camera | Video

This performance was filmed in the Oshogbo Sacred Grove, a sacred forest in Nigeria where the Osun River flows, believed to be the embodiment of Osun, Yoruba deity of femininity and water. Seated in the forest, holding a raw clay form close, I offered a quiet gesture of vulnerability and reverence. The Grove, alive with ritual memory and feminine presence, became a space to reflect on the fragility and intimacy at the heart of my practice. Clay in its unfired state mirrors the body, soft, impressionable, impermanent. In embracing it here, I explored the semiotics of care, yielding, and return. Performance allows me to work with presence rather than permanence, choosing gesture over object. In this sacred place, I sought to embody a moment, quiet, open, and alive to the elemental intelligence of clay, water, forest, and spirit.
